BLACK WOMEN: UGLY TO THE BONE

Real Life

We've all heard the old adage that "Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly is to the bone". Well, according to blogger and doctor, Satoshi Kanazawa black women are just ugly, but wait don't jump the gun in anger just yet. Kanazawa has done his research to prove this tidbit of sad truth about "science". Psychology Today ran an article by Kanazawa  in 2011 titled "A Look at the Hard Truths About Human Nature: Why are Black Women Less Physically Attractive Than Other Women?" (Oh no he di-int', in my Sheneneh voice). You can read Kanazawa's "research" here: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:73-ha14VqBAJ:thesciencebitdotnet.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/kanazawa-text.pdf+Dr.+Satoshi+Kanazawa+piece:+%E2%80%9CWhy+Are+Black+Women+Less+Physically+Attractive+Than+Other+Women?%E2%80%9D&hl=en&gl=us&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESj87humruQySHxNkRRAN_2924Z8sfAhmTjKSIVfiBG9uCCCqJvbSgyLMLkmgXRyJJGgJ6sAmS_z974q7b49iuOFbkIm_eyb5qRditm6QoksRJI2mUOVrae27iaTFXX4n_-XzpN6&sig=AHIEtbS_eKL4NRGTV4RhUP3uZDMoqVPyHw

Satoshi Kanazawa's Research Findings
  • "...even though black women are objectively less physically attractive than other women, black woman (and men) subjectively consider themselves to be far more physically attractive than others...both black women and black men rate themselves to be far more physically attractive than other races."
  • "What accounts for the markedly lower average level of physical attractiveness among black women? Black women are on average much heavier than non-black women."
  • " Africans on average have higher levels of testosterone than other races...women with higher testosterone also have more masculine features and are therefore less  physically attractive.."

The Bottom Line: So What Is Kanazawa Really Saying?
  1. Black people are arrogant, both black men and women although they are ugly see themselves as attractive.
  2. Black women are ugly because we're all fat.
  3. Black women have an increased level of the male hormone; therefore we look like men.
  4. If you read the research in full you'll see that Kanazawa basically states that because black people are the first people of the Earth black women are the ugliest because we have the oldest genes.

Tell The Truth and Shame The Devil

I read this "research" and saw it as nothing more than hate speech wrapped up in a pretty box with a bow-tie on it and then called science. It stinks of racism, stereotypes, idiocy, and the racial bullying of the black woman. For a long time now I've known within our society that the black woman is ranked at the bottom of the totem pole of people and women. Black women are usually typecast as uneducated, angry, loose, domineering, loud, fat, violent, and lazy in the media and entertainment world. Which in turn spills over to peoples real life perceptions of black women.

The Paradox of Physical Attractiveness for Black Women

How is it possible that black women can be "objectively" seen as physically less attractive when our physiological features are more sought after than women of any other race?I.e. (Full lips, ample bottom, darker skin, hair styles etc). According to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Caucasians make up 81% of  the population who are getting procedures, while all other races only make up 19%, with black people at 6% for cosmetic procedures.
 Why?
Why is it that African features are attractive on other women, but when black women exhibit their own features it's no longer attractive? There's a paradox here (I.e. Jennifer Lopez's famous bottom, actress Bo Dereks famous cornrow hairstyle, Kim Kardashian's famous bottom and dark features, tanned skin...etc.)

  • When a black woman has curves and a body, she's fat and overweight.
  • When a black women wears an Afrocentric hairstyle, in the words of Don Imus (when he refered to some women basketball players) she's a "nappy headed hoe", but when women of other races do it they look exotic and have a bohemian style. Seriously?
  • When black women have beautiful sun kissed skin and dark features, they're considered too black and ugly. (I.e. Howard Stern talking about "Precious" star Gaborie Sidbie: “There’s the most enormous, fat black chick I’ve ever seen. She is enormous. Everyone’s pretending she’s a part of show business and she’s never going to be in another movie. She should have gotten the Best Actress award because she’s never going to have another shot. What movie is she gonna be in.”)
  • Our hair styles are gorgeous, just not on us. Our voluptuous bodies are feminine, just not on us, dark skin is beautiful, just not on us. Everything about a black woman is beautiful as long as it's not a black woman. Right?

(Bottom Right Actress: Bo Derek)  Some pictures to demonstrate the styles of hair, skin, and body types that have been referenced as exceptionally beautiful on women of other races, but unattractive or unworthy of notability on black women..

A differing opinion on Dr. Satoshi Kanazawa's research topic "Why Are Black Women Less Physically Attractive Than Other Women"

My Thoughts...
The research that Kanazawa has conducted is flawed at best and hasn't a stub to stand on. This sounds like an easy way to slip in modern racism and the even bigger disappointment here is that Psychology Today actually allowed this to be published and then tried to explain it away, then apologize for it all before removing the article completely. This shouldn't even be a topic of discussion, much less a topic of educated discussion. I find black women to be beautiful and as Kanazawa himself said we are the first people, meaning to call us unattractive is to call your mother ugly, civilization was birthed from a black woman's womb, poetically speaking and scientifically speaking.

Questions For Readers
Do you feel there's any validity to Dr. Kanazawa's research? Do you think black women are unattractive or less attractive and why? Can this be considered a form of scientific/genetic racism? What are your thoughts about this topic?

  1. Kanazawa's research is just absurd. Like you said, it stinks of racism. Also, you're so right about a majority of the other races attempting to enhance themselves to replicate features of black women. Women out there are getting butt enhancements, breast enhancements, botox for their lips, and so on. Black women of all shapes, sizes, and shades are beautiful.

    1. Amen to that Linda! Ppl are tying to enhance themselves to achieve black features, but seem to be in denial about that.

    2. Do you feel there's any validity to Dr. Kanazawa's research? No…. This is plum ridiculous… the questions I started asking myself is WHAT THE HECK IS THE POINT OF HIS ARTICLE?? What purpose does this really serve? For this research to actually be picked up and published says a lot and shows that a few things still need to change… Disgusting, for someone to really sit there and take the time out to right about this. This wouldn’t be acceptable to me about any race. #SMH Thanks for sharing keep the posts coming #God Bless Beautiful Sista:)

    3. Thank you for your comment Stichiz.. I think you're making the same point as the man in the YouTube video. The research is null and useless.

    4. It's absurd... because you don't like the outcome.

  2. It seems as though white men and white women think of black women more than black women do.It is like we as black women are being studied and with this being said and being true from what i see and experience then black women must really be beautiful to white women as well as to white men.I think that white women and white men have to tell themselves that black women are ugly just to justify their lack of beauty, such as stringy hair, big noses, flat asses, pale old looking skin, early aging, and weak ass immune systems. If black women are so ugly then why do white people, white women spend hours at the tanning salons,Why do white women and white men marry, and have sexual relations with black men and black women. Why do white women get surgery on their asses, lips, hips and legs just to look like that of the black woman. If i thought a certain race of people were ugly ,i wouldnt want to look like them nor have their features.I also noticed this issue that whites have in their heads about their hair.Everytime a white woman comes around me she starts rubbing her fingers in her hair as if she thinks i want it..lol!! thats funny when i think and believe its fur.I see white women trying to wear braids and trying to thicken up their hair etc. I know black women are beautiful. With the black woman their is variety, youth, sexiness, versatility and strength so that crap he is talking about is just a means to satisfy his own ego.I do agree that in every race of people their is always someone unattractive and not pleasing to the eyes, but in all fairness when you watch commercials on television there is always this one black woman with big hair seeming to be biracial, obese and just plain. When you watch white sitcoms there is always a less attractive black woman up against the white woman on the show.Never ,ever do they put a pure sexy black woman up against a white woman and if and when they do,she has the demeanor of that of a white woman,or her character makes the audience not like her and last but least she is slutty.White women are threatened by the presence of that of a black woman.White women are nicer to black men before they attempt to be nice to a black woman. This is an actual fact and nothing i am making up.I have experienced white couples and whenever there is a beautiful black woman around a white man and a white woman she grabs his arm tighter as if he is gonna leave out the door with the black woman. So in all honesty and fairness all of that crap he is saying is his desire to be with a black woman in secret and he knows it is all a lie.

    1. I cannot agree enough with you. If we are so ugly then why don't they let us be? I am sure there are other people ugly out there, but they don't go proving their ugliness. They live to hate us, it's the worst form of enslavement. My high school principal told us: "if someone hates you, keep doing what you do, excel at it and let his heart rot" . We are black women and we are here to stay!
I also want to raise one thing, I am not AA but I constantly read about AA people bashed for speaking ebonics! I don't understand why but I love to think ebonics is part of the culture, its part of how the community operate and it kind of unifies you and make you feel as part of a whole. I think AA people must go and be formal in the workplace and everything, but when you get home, relax and enjoy your culture. Its not a bad thing! It is part of your identities and you should embrace it and not discard it. It is closest you can have your own instead of assimilating completely into a world where there is so much hate. Power to all my black sisters! Let me hear more on this.

  3. I don't really think black features are unattractive. They aren't...they can be very beautiful actually, it's just how black women portray them. American black women don't seem to have much skill in visuals, and this can be improved upon. People love differences and uniqueness in people. They don't want us to look the same, however, people appreciate things done well, and this is where many not all black women fall short. They need to train their eye on what makes them look well put together and like they care about themselves holistically.

I'm black and have always been considered pretty by both men and women. Granted, some of it is genetics, I did luck up with a good starter kit but I work to maximize it well with tasteful styling choices, diet, and lifestyle. But what has always set me apart is that I have always been willing to do the work.

Black women need to learn how to work with what they have much much better than what they do at this time. Shows like "What Not to Wear" teach unattractive women how to transform themselves into renewed and attractive beings, and they don't have to be artificial about anything, all they have to do is take the advice and make the investment. When black women start making more effective efforts in with their looks and composure, people will respond to them better. Nothing lasts forever, you're can be out today and in tomorrow with the right approach. Believe me, I get why American black women are viewed they way they are, because we've conditioned society to see us that way with our actions, or lack thereof.

  4. There you go, feeling sorry for yourself and not being productive. It's not about having kinky hair, black skin, etc. It's about bringing what you were given by nature to its glory. That's what being attractive is about. Society doesn't expect us to be anything else but who we are, but it expects us to have self respect, to dress, look, and carry ourselves in a far more classy and beautiful way.
